Pareto chart is a free template to organize errors, problems or defects in a transparent diagram. A Pareto chart is showing the frequency of errors, problems or defects in bars and cumulative share percentages in a graph.

Pareto chart is named after the Italian mathematician Vilfredo Pareto who noted that the greatest activity in a process is caused by a small number of factors. Vilfredo Paretos concept is called the 80-20 rule where 80% of the activity is said to be caused by 20% of the factors.

Pareto charts are used in quality management to prioritize and focus improvement efforts to those activities that provide the greatest results. If you concentrate on 20% of the factors you can eliminate 80% of the problems.
