Master production schedule is a free template to establish a production schedule for when and how much to be produced of each individual final product (products in inventory of finished goods).

A master production schedule is based on the aggregate production plan and should be consistent with this. A master production schedule has a higher specification compared with the aggregate production plan in terms of both products and time units.

A master production schedule gives expression to the planned production during different periods of time specified for the various final products. The master production schedule is not an expression of the expected demand during different time periods. A master production schedule is used to plan production of final products with a dependent demand.

Dependent demand means that demand for an final product affect the demand for the components included in this final product, that is to say that there is a connection between the products. With dependent demand means that the demand for a product incorporated into a final product depends on the demand for this final product.

The master production schedule is the starting point for the material requirement planning, where you must determine how much to purchase of the components in the final products to be produced or manufactured.
